BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana baseball (6-7-1) used a 6-0 victory on Sunday afternoon to take its series from the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.
Freshman Andrew Saalfrank (1-1) picked up the win with a six-strikeout performance over the course of six innings and allowed just three hits. Freshman Matt Lloyd and B.J. Sabol combined for three innings and allowed just one hit apiece, while Lloyd picked up two strikeouts.
Senior Alex Krupa picked up his second home run of the season and scored a run, while sophomore Ryan Fineman and freshman Jeremy Houston each led the way with two hits. Houston also added an RBI. Sophomore Luke Miller drove in a game-high two RBI, while junior Laren Eustace also grabbed an RBI in the effort.
Krupa's second home run in as many games quickly put Indiana up 1-0 in the first inning. Saalfrank picked up two strikeouts in the second inning and retired nine-straight Blue Raiders until Indiana provided an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Matt Gorski singled back up the middle to lead off the inning and took two bases off Craig Dedelow's single to right field. An RBI single to centerfield by Miller upped the Hoosiers' lead to 2-0.
Middle Tennessee looked to cut into its deficit in both the fifth and sixth inning. Krupa robbed Chaz Vesser of a home run by snagging the ball over the fence. Then in the sixth, Dedelow hauled in a fly ball in centerfield and rifled the ball to Fineman for the tag out at home plate to end the inning.
Indiana added two runs to its lead in the seventh inning. Fineman led off with a double down the right field line and came around to score on a throwing error from Houston's bunt base hit. After Krupa got plunked to load the bases, a walk to Miller plated Tony Butler.
The Hossiers added another two runs in the bottom of the eighth to seal off its 6-0 victory. A walk and single put two on for Houston, who doubled down the left field line to score senior Logan Sowers, who walked to lead off the inning. Eustace then scored Butler, who singled to left field, off a sacrifice fly.
Indiana now travels to Hawaii where it will face the Rainbow Warriors for a four-game series beginning on Wednesday with a first pitch time slated for 11:35 p.m. ET.
