Hoosiers Take Down Rutgers, 5-2

LAS VEGAS – The Indiana women's tennis team picked up their 10th win of the season with a 5-2 win over Rutgers on Thursday at the Darling Tennis Center.
After dropping the doubles point, the Hoosiers (10-6, 1-1) came back strong in singles.
At No. 1 singles Madison Appel won 6-4, 6-2. Caitlin Bernard and Pauline Jahren also won in straight sets for the Hoosiers to put Indiana up 3-1 in the match.
Natalie Whalen clinched the match for the Hoosiers with a second set tiebreak, to win her match, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Kim Schmider added a fifth point for Indiana with a three-set victory on court five.
"We have had a great week in Las Vegas," IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said. "We have had some great practices and the team played well to get the victory today. We look forward to continuing Big Ten play back in Bloomington next week."
Up next the Hoosiers host Michigan on Saturday March 25 and Michigan State on Sunday March 26. Both matches are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. ET starts.
