Four Rounds in the 60’s Help Hoosiers To Fifth Place After Day One at Grand Canyon Invite

PHOENIX, Arizona – Indiana freshman Brock Ochsenreiter used rounds of 72 and 67 to tie for 10th place after 36 holes at the Grand Canyon Invitational while the team sits in fifth place out of 14 teams. Competing as an individual, redshirt sophomore Jack Sparrow is 6-under and in third place on the individual leaderboard.

For Sparrow, he opened with a career-best round 67 and followed it up with a 69 in his second round to give him a total score of 136. In round one, he used five birdies and one eagle to offset a trio of bogeys and then followed it up with four birdies in round two.

Ochsenreiter also posted a career-best score with his 67 in round two thanks to five birdies and just one bogey. He also had five birdies in the first round but posted a 1-over 72.

The fourth round in the 60s for the Hoosiers belonged to Andrew Havill, who posted a 2-under par 69 in round two after a 73 in round one. His score of 142 is good for a tie for 21st. In his first 36 holes, Havill has carded eight birdies.

With Ochsenreiter and Sparrow posting scores in the 60's on Friday, now each of the nine players on the IU roster have a career-low score in the 60's.

Christian Fairbanks is tied for 34th following rounds of 70 and 74 to sit at 2-over par and Brendon Doyle is one shot behind him at 3-over par and a tie for 40th following scores of 73 and 72.

Rounding out the team lineup for the Hoosiers is Jake Brown, who is tied for 69th at 8-over par with scores of 73 and 77.

In addition to Sparrow competing as an individual, there are a trio of Hoosiers also competing as individuals. Trevor Ranton finished day one at 8-over par and a tie for 69th while Keegan Vea (T89) and Will Seger (94th) will look to improve their scores on day two.
