Jackson’s rematch with Parker a battle for All-American status
ST. LOUIS – Indiana wrestling senior Nate Jackson (184) wrestled all the way back to a crucial juncture in his NCAA career on Friday morning at Scottrade Center. With two wins in the consolation rounds, Jackson (34-4) is one win away from his second consecutive All-American honor.
Jackson opened the third session with a wrestle-back match against Nick Corba (Cleveland State), his second meeting against the Viking this season. While Corba forced Jackson's first win without bonus points at the start of the year, the Hoosier made short work of this encounter with a 1:48 fall.
Jackson fired his first shot at the opening whistle and tilted Corba for a rapid 6-0 lead. He cut Corba loose before shooting once more, building an 8-1 lead after just two shots. It wasn't long before Jackson caught Corba in a compromising position and earned the pin, advancing to the first round of eight.
In the next match, Jackson met Jordan Ellingwood (Central Michigan) with a spot in the blood round on the line. Jackson's determination was on full display, locking up a double in the opening seconds for the first takedown. Another two takedowns in the first period, along with 1:54 in riding time, gave Jackson a 6-2 lead after three minutes.
The Hoosier senior's lead extended after starting on bottom and flipping a reversal in the second period. He pushed the ride clock north of three minutes before Ellingwood mustered a final effort. Ellingwood escaped, scored his first takedown, and rode out the period to pull within two points; Jackson's riding point held, however, and he emerged with the 9-6 decision.

Fans call this session the "Blood Round" for good reason. The winner of these matches will earn a spot on the All-American podium, regardless of ensuing performances; the loser goes home empty-handed.
Jackson, who entered one of the deepest brackets in the nation, faces a thorough examination against Emery Parker (Illinois). The series advantage lies with Jackson, who won both matches with Parker this year (dec. 9-6; dec. 6-4).
Parker has built momentum throughout the weekend, to his credit, including a stunning upset over NCAA Champion Myles Martin (Ohio State) in the round of 16. He entered the tournament as the 11th-seed, the sixth highest amongst the Big Ten constituency.
The mat assignment and match time remains to be determined. Follow @IUWrestling on Twitter for updates.
