Freshman Matt Gorski picked up his second career three-hit game and knocked his first colligate home run in his first at bat of the game. He drove in two runs. Senior Logan Sowers also homered in the contest and picked up two hits, while senior Tony Butler rounded out the multi-hit performances with two of his own to go along with an RBI. Senior Craig Dedelow picked up two late-inning RBI, with sophomore Luke Miller also pushed across an RBI.
Freshman Cal Krueger tossed a strong a three-inning relief stint, allowing just two hits and no runs.
Gorski lifted the third pitch he saw over the left field wall run in the top of the first inning to quickly give Indiana a lead. A fielding error in the top of the second gifted sophomore Ryan Fineman two bases. Senior Austin Cangelosi also capitalized on a fielding error in the outfield, which moved Fineman up to third. He scored on Butler's groundout.
Hawai'I got a run back in the bottom of the second when Ethan Lopez tripled to drive in a run, cutting the Hoosiers' lead to 2-1. Four hits and three runs in the bottom of the third gave the Rainbow Warriors a 4-2 lead before Sowers homered in the top of the fourth to cut Indiana's deficit to 4-3.
Three doubles in the fifth inning helped give Indiana back a 5-4 lead. Senior Alex Krupa took two bases on a ball hit to left and came around to score on Gorski's second multi-base hit of the game. Miller mirrored Gorski and also doubled down the left field line, giving Indiana back the lead.
Junior Brandon Kelley inherited a runner in the seventh inning before Hawai'i loaded the bases. The righty picked up a strikeout to strand three runners.
Indiana gave its bullpen some run support in the eighth inning and upped its lead to 10-4 with the help of a five-run frame. Sowers led off with a single to right and advanced to third on freshman Matt Gorski's pinch hit through the right side. A wild pitch scored Sowers before Butler's single pushed across Gorski. A walk to Krupa put two on for Dedelow, who singled to drive in two runs. Indiana's 10th run came off Hawai'i's third error of the game, which allowed Dedelow to score.
Hawai'i responded with its own five-run inning in the bottom of the eighth to bring the game back within one run, 10-9. A two-out single by Alex Fitchett brought in three runs before sophomore Pauly Milto caught Logan Pouelsen looking.
A two-out balk with a runner on third tied the game in the bottom of the ninth for Hawai'i. Kekai Rios delivered the walk-off RBI single to right field.
Indiana returns home on Wednesday, March 22 with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch time against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
