BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Four Hoosiers will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the USA Women's Volleyball National Team Open Tryout, March 3-5 at the Olympic Training Center.
Sophomore Elizabeth Asdell and freshmen Victoria Brisack, Ally Badowski and Deyshia Lofton will represent the Hoosiers in Colorado.
"This will be a good experience for Deyshia, Ally, Liz and Tori," IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan said. "We have different reasons every year for choosing the players we do for this tryout. It's either motivation, a reward or awareness for these four. It's a great opportunity to test yourself and see where you stack up compared to some of the best in the country and hopefully bring that knowledge back to reset your goals for August."
There will be 243 athletes from 84 colleges and 10 high schools that are participating. The athletes will be competing for spots on the U.S. Women's National Team, U.S. Collegiate National Teams program and the U.S. Women's Junior National Team.
Last year, senior Jazzmine McDonald participated in the tryout and was selected for the Collegiate National Team, which traveled to Europe to compete in the Global Challenge, this past summer. McDonald and her teammates won the Gold Medal at the Global Challenge and also took time to sightsee in Italy and Croatia.
U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly will direct the entire tryout process.
The tryout will involve four sessions with three waves per session. Friday's first session goes from 2-8 p.m. MT, while Saturday's sessions are at 8 a.m. (focus on serve/receive and individual work) and 2 p.m. (middle-centered and out-of-system focus). The final session on Sunday begins at 7:30 a.m. MT with tournament style play, along with 16-18 athletes selected by the U.S. Women's National Team staff to participate in a "USA" training session. The Sunday session wraps up at 10:30 a.m. MT.
All sessions of the tryout will be streamed live. USA Volleyball will use #USAVtryout as the event hashtag for photos, notes, quotes and stories posted to its social media platforms.
Brisack will have a blog throughout the tryout detailing the experience of herself and her teammates. A link for the blog is above.
