Baseball Holds on For a 3-2 Victory over Cincinnati

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana baseball (10-8-1) won for the sixth time in seven contests with a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats (10-10) on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Luke Miller recorded two hits and an RBI, while freshman Jake Matheny picked up single to score two runs.

Sophomore Jonathan Stiever started and pitched one inning of perfect baseball. Sophomore Tim Herrin took over and improved to 2-2 in the four inning outing, allowing one hit and one earned run. Senior Luke Stephenson and junior B.J. Sabol each picked up an inning of scoreless relief, while junior Matt Lloyd earned his first career save.

After three and a half scoreless innings, the Hoosiers made some noise. Freshman Matt Gorski started it off with a bunt single for his 13^th hit of the season. Senior Craig Dedelow followed the base-hit with a single of his own, putting runners at first and second. Miller doubled down the left field line to to score Gorski. The next batter, Matheny, cleared the bases with a two-run single, giving the Hoosiers a 3-0 lead.

The Bearcats responded in the fifth inning with a run scoring single to right field to make it 3-1. Herrin sent down the next two batters to preserve the Hoosiers' lead.

The Bearcats chipped away with an eighth inning RBI single as Cincinnati cut the deficit to 3-2. Lloyd pitched the final out of the eighth and a scoreless ninth to notch the save.

Indiana begins a three-game series with the Northwestern Wildcats this Friday at 4 p.m. in Evanston, Ill.
