Sophomore Matt Lloyd picked up two RBI on four hits, with seniors Alex Krupa and Caig Dedelow also providing RBIs in the win.
Senior Pauly Milto earned the win with a 6.1 inning performance, mixing seven hits with six strikeouts and holding the Wildcats scoreless. Lloyd picked up his second save and grabbed two key strikeouts to close the door in the ninth.
The Hoosiers struck first in the top of the first for two runs. Freshman Matt Gorski extended his hit streak to 11 games with a one-out single and then stole second. Miller drove him in with a single up the middle to put the first run on the board. After Llloyd singled to put runners on the corners, Sowers delivered a two-out RBI single to plate the second run of the frame.
Northwestern capitalized in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead. With one away, the Wildcats used three-straight base hits and a hit by pitch to score two runs. Milto came in to relieve IU freshman Andrew Saalfrank before Northwestern plated a third run on a sacrifice fly to take a 3-2 lead.
Indiana rebounded in the second inning to even the score at 3-3. Senior Tony Butler tallied a leadoff walk and then advanced to second on a passed ball. He went on to score on an RBI single by Krupa to knot the game up at three.
Gorski reached base again in the top of the fourth and stole second. Dedelow drove him in with a single through the right side to extend the lead to 5-3. From there, the Hoosiers plated three more runs in the frame, beginning with Lloyd's RBI single to score Dedelow. A one-out double by Sowers pushed across two more runs, giving Indiana a 6-3 lead.
Milto dealt a quick bottom of the fourth and continued to trouble the Wildcats' offense through the seventh inning until Northwestern put two runners on with two outs. Junior Austin Foote came in and picked up a swinging strikeout to strand two.
Indiana tacked on three insurance runs that proved to be the difference in the eighth inning. Two-out hitting led to a single by Miller and double by Lloyd before Sowers connected for a three-run home run to left field, upping Indiana's lead to 10-4.
Northwestern chipped in a fifth run in the bottom half of the eighth and added five runs in the bottom of the ninth. Lloyd entered the game as Indiana's pitcher with two runners on base and one out. The Wildcats were able to trim its deficit down to one run before Lloyd picked up back-to-back strikeouts to leave the tying run on base.
