BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team played its first spring match of the season on Friday night against Indiana State. After some drills the teams played a best two out of three match with Indiana winning, 25-23, 25-17. The teams then played a third set to 15 points, which Indiana won 15-6.
Redshirt freshman Kendall Beerman led the Hoosiers with 12 kills and hit .381 for the match. Beerman was also dangerous from the service line with five aces.
Sophomore Elizabeth Asdell tallied six kills on 10 swings (.600) and freshman Deyshia Lofton posted six kills on 11 swings (.545) and added three blocks.
Sophomore Samantha Fogg had eight digs and freshman Meaghan Koors tallied four digs.
"We have only been in team practice for two weeks, so you are not going to see perfect volleyball," IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan said. "What I liked was we have really been working on our body language and communication in practice and I was happy that we were able to transfer that into competition mode. I think it gave their teammates confidence and it kept things on an even keel instead of getting chaotic."
Up next the Hoosiers will compete at the Indy Collegiate Spring Invitational on April 1 in Indianapolis.
