BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Baseball (14-8-1, 3-0 Big Ten) kept their hot stretch going with a 6-3 victory over Evansville on Wednesday night at Bart Kaufman Field. The Hoosiers have won 10 of their last 11 games overall.
Senior Tony Butler had a four RBI night with a three-hit performance that included two doubles. Senior Logan Sowers tallied two hits and scored three runs. Sophomore Matt Lloyd tallied a hit and scored two runs in the win.
Sophomore Tim Herrin earned his third win with a five inning performance, allowing six hits and two runs that occurred in the first inning. Freshman Cal Krueger finished the game with four strong innings, giving up three hits on one run and notched his first career save.
The Aces struck first in the top of the first for two runs off a double and a single, both to left field.
Indiana rebounded in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead. Butler cracked a leadoff single to left field and then advanced to second after Lloyd was hit by a pitch. Sowers plated the Hoosiers first run of the game with a single down the right field line. Butler cleared the bases with a double to left center on a 2-0 count, scoring Sowers and Lloyd.
Two innings later, Indiana was back to putting runs on the board when they scored on a passed ball and a bunt single. On the passed ball, Lloyd scored his second run of the game, adding more cushion to the IU lead. Butler and the Hoosiers used small ball to score their next run as a suicide squeeze attempt was beat out for a base hit. Butler advanced to third and Logan Sowers scored to make it 5-2 in favor of the Hoosiers.
Teams traded runs in the sixth inning to get to 6-3. In the top half, the Aces put runners on at first and second with two outs. A double to right scored a run to cut the deficit to two but Krueger got a strikeout to strand two runners.
The Hoosiers got the run back with a couple of doubles. Sowers got his second hit of the day with a double to left on a 2-2 count. The senior scored IU's sixth run of the night when Butler doubled to complete his 3-for-3 night.
