CHICAGO - The Big Ten Conference announced the All-Big Ten honorees for the 2017 season and Indiana's Thomas Bryant was named to the third team by the coaches and media. Junior James Blackmon Jr. received third team accolades by the media and honorable mention from the coaches.
Bryant, a sophomore from Rochester, N.Y., averaged 13.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in Big Ten play this season after earning Third Team All-Big Ten honors as a freshman. His rebounding average ranked ninth in the conference while his 53.1 field goal percentage also put him ninth place. He excelled on the defensive end as well, blocking 1.5 shots per game to rank seventh and tied for 15th in defensive rebounds (4.2). He finished Big Ten play with four double-doubles, highlighted by a 31-point, 11-rebound effort against Penn State.
Blackmon Jr., a junior from Marion, Indiana, led the Hoosiers and ranked sixth in the conference by scoring at a 16.5 points per game clip in Big Ten play. He also shot 37.7 percent from the 3-point line and 83.3 percent at the free throw line (40-of-48) to rank fifth. In conference play this year, Blackmon posted five games scoring 20-plus points, led by a 33-point outburst in the win against Michigan State. This is Blackmon's second honorable mention all-conference honor after grabbing the honor as a freshman.
Senior Collin Hartman, who has missed this season with an injury, was named the team's Sportsmanship honoree.
The Hoosiers, who are the No. 10 seed at the Big Ten Tournament this week in Washington, D.C., will take on No. 7 seed Iowa on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
