Hoosiers Take Down Boilermakers, 4-3

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team pulled out a tight 4-3 victory on the road against Purdue on Saturday.
The Hoosiers (11-8, 2-3 Big Ten) took control of the match early in doubles as they won at No. 2 by a score of 6-2 and won at No. 1 6-4 to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Purdue (5-11, 0-5 Big Ten) won the first two singles matches to get back in it and take a 2-1 lead.
The Hoosiers responded as Caitlin Bernard and Natalie Whalen each won singles matches to put the Hoosiers up 3-2.
The Boilermakers evened the score 3-3 with a three-set win on court five and the match came down the No. 1 singles and Madison Appel for the Hoosiers.
Appel had won her first set, but then dropped a 7-6 (7-3) tiebreak in the second set. Appel went up 4-2 in the third set, but her opponent Alex Sabe came back to even the set 4-4 and 5-5.
Appel came through for the Hoosiers as she converted and took advantage of her opportunities for a 7-5 win on a deuce point for the match.
Up next the Hoosiers host Marquette tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
