Indiana Travels to Boilermaker Invitational This Weekend

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – This weekend, the Indiana men's golf team will play at the 14th annual Boilermaker Invitational. The Kampen Course – the site of a 2017 NCAA Regional – will be the host of this weekend's tournament, featuring 15 teams.
With 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday, fans are encouraged to come out to the course and watch the action both days. A shotgun start at 8:45am will get things underway Saturday morning.

The 15-teams are Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Toledo, Cincinnati, UNLV, Southern Illinois, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Miami, Michigan, UCF, and Kent State.

The Hoosiers will have five guys competing towards the team score this weekend and one individual. The lineup is as follows:
HOOSIER INVITATIONAL RECAP
On home turf at the IU Golf Course, the Hoosiers entered the final round of the Hoosier Invitational in fourth place out of 14 other teams. Recording the best round of the day in the last round, Indiana jumped two spots on the leaderboard to finish in second place, matching their best tournament finish of the season. Three Hoosiers landed in the top 12, but the top performance belonged to Jake Brown, who closed the tournament tied for eighth place, his best tournament finish this year.
GRAND CANYON INVITATIONAL RECAP
At the Grand Canyon Invitational, Brock Ochsenreiter and Jack Sparrow both finished the 54-hole event at 2-under par and a tie for 16th to lead the way. Andrew Havill came in tied for 30th at 4-over par. As a team, Indiana finished in eighth place in the 14-team field with a score of 13-over par 865.
DESERT MOUNTAIN RECAP
The first stroke play event of the Spring season sent Indiana to Desert Mountain in Arizona, where the Hoosiers finished in 12th place as a team with a score of 912. The top individual performance belonged to Jake Brown, who posted scores of 74-75-77 to finish tied for 45th.
BIG TEN MATCH PLAY RECAP
At the Big Ten Match Play Championship, the Hoosiers opened with a matchup against Iowa, and it came down to the final holes but the Hawkeyes pulled out the win, 3-1-2. The Hoosiers then fell to the Round Robin portion of the event and defeated Nebraska in their next match by a 4-2 margin before dropping a 4-1-1 decision to Ohio State. At the end of the tournament, all six Hoosiers that competed won at least one match.
QUAIL VALLEY INTERCOLLEGIATE RECAP
The final tournament of the fall season saw the Hoosiers travel to Vero Beach, Florida for the Quail Valley Intercollegiate and they came away with a 14th place team finish out of 15 teams. Senior Andrew Havill led the way with an Even par score of 216 for the tournament to tie for 28th and has finished inside the top 30 of each event so far this season. Redshirt sophomore Jake Brown was just one shot behind him at 1-over par and a tie for 35th, capped off by a final round 69.
NORTHERN INTERCOLLEGIATE RECAP
The Hoosiers earned a second place team finish at the Northern Intercollegiate at Beverly CC in Chicago on Oct. 10. Brendon Doyle led a trio of Hoosiers inside the top 16 individually for the tournament, as he finished tied for eighth with a score of 7-over par (220) to tie for his best career finish. Andrew Havill was behind him at 11-over par and Ochsenreiter was 13-over par.
WINDON MEMORIAL RECAP
At the Windon Memorial, Indiana posted a 11th place finish with a score of 896 (295-298-303; +32) while Keegan Vea was the top IU individual with a score of 221 (70-76-75; +5) and a tie for 21st. For Vea, it marked his eighth career top 25 finish and the fifth overall Top 25 by a Hoosier this season. Vea's first round 70 (-2) was also the best round in relation to par so far this season. Andrew Havill continued his steady start to his senior season with this third straight Top 30 finish after a score of 224 put him in a tie for 29th.
RECAP FROM OLYMPIA FIELDS
In what is annually one of the best – if not the best – fields in collegiate golf, the Hoosiers entered the final round in 10th place out of 14 teams at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. But when the dust settled on the final round, Indiana slipped to 14th place but were just four shots out of 10th place and showed that they can compete with some of the best teams in the country.
Senior Andrew Havill continued to show the way for IU early in the season, as he posted scores of 73-70-73 to earn his second Top 20 finish of the season (T19). Brendon Doyle was just one shot behind him at 217 and in 21st place.
SEASON OPENER AT WOLF RUN
The Hoosiers hosted 14 teams at Wolf Run Golf Club to open the 2016-17 season and finished sixth with a score of 590 after the tournament had to be shortened to 36 holes due to rain. Andrew Havill led Indiana with a T6 finish and a score of 143 (+1). Doyle joined Havill in the top 20 with a score of 145 that was good for a tie 14th.
Freshman Brock Ochsenreiter also made his college debut at Wolf Run, posting scores of 76 and 77 to tie for 45th.
