
IU Takes Eighth Place at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – On Sunday at the Kampen Course on the campus of Purdue University, the Indiana men's golf team was one of seven teams to post a team score under par, closing with a 287 (-1) and move up one spot to finish in eight place.
The Hoosiers beat three teams ranked higher than them in the GolfStat rankings. Indiana also played the par 5's in 6-under par for the tournament, which was tied for the best of any team in the tournament.
The round of the day for Indiana came from Jake Brown, who started on the back nine and played it in 4-under par before carding eight pars and a bogey on the front nine to finish with a score of 3-under par (69). That moved him up the leaderboard to finish tied for 23rd at 5-over par (221) for the tournament.
The top overall finish for IU came from senior Andrew Havill, who used a 2-under par round of 70 on Sunday to finish 4-over par for the tournament and a tie for 19th. His final round was a model of consistency with three birdies, one bogey and 14 pars.
Jack Sparrow got off to a tough start in his final round, playing the first six holes in 2-over par. But as he moved to the front nine, he regrouped and played the front nine in 3-under par before closing with a pair of bogeys to post a score of 73. His overall score of 229 (+13) ranked tied for 54th.
The fourth score that counted for Indiana on Sunday was freshman Brock Ochsenreiter's 3-over par round of 75. He led Indiana with five birdies on the day and finished in a tie for 30th at 7-over par over the 54 holes.
Christian Fairbanks final round 77 gave him a score of 232 for the weekend and a tie for 67th at 16-over par.
Competing as an individual was Trevor Ranton, who posted his top score of the tournament on Sunday with an 80 to finish with a score of 245.
Indiana will compete at the Kepler Intercollegiate next weekend hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
