Indiana Women’s Golf Completes Day One At Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – Indiana Women's Golf opened play in the first ever Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational led by a tied for 21st performance from senior Ana Sanjuan on Sunday afternoon at the El Tigre Golf and Country Club.
Sanjuan went 3-over par (75) to pace the IU leaderboard, as she wrapped up the first nine holes at 1-under complete with two birdies on the day. Sophomore Erin Harper came out of the gate with a birdie on opening on hole 10. She finished the round with two birdies and a 5-over par day turning in a 77. Redshirt freshman Carolina Garrett matched Harper with a 77 as she completed three birdies – the most of any Hoosier on the day.
Junior Alix Kong (78) came in tied for 43rd while senior Theresa-Ann Jedra (81) rounded out the IU leaderboard tied for 59th. Freshman Emma Fisher shot her second-best round of the season with a 2-over 76 as she competed as an individual. She is in a tie for 26th overall heading into tomorrow's day two round.
As a team, IU shot 307 (+19) and are just three strokes from seventh place Kennesaw State and Coastal Carolina and six from sixth place Idaho. Reigning national champion Washington leads the field with a 7-over performance (295).
Indiana returns to El Tigre tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET with a shotgun start in another round of 18 holes.
