Indiana Jumps Two Spots to Finish Second at Hoosier Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – The final round of the 2017 Hoosier Invitational at the IU Golf Course saw the host Hoosiers record the best round of the day and jump two spots on the leaderboard to finish in second place, matching their best tournament finish of the season.
Three of the five players competing towards the team score finished T12 or better while Christian Fairbanks, who was competing as an individual, also finished T12.
Redshirt junior Jake Brown continued his strong weekend of play by posting a final round score of 1-under par 70. He closed the tournament with a score of 213 (Even) and a tie for eighth place, which is his easily his best tournament finish this year.
Senior Andrew Havill, playing the final home tournament of his career, also carded a 1-under score of 70 in his final round to put him at 1-over par for the tournament and a tie for 10th place individually. It's his second top 10 finish of the season and he has finished inside the top 30 in seven of eight stroke play events this year.
The round of the day for IU belonged to redshirt sophomore Jack Sparrow registered three birdies and one bogey to finish the day at 2-under par for the round and 2-over par for the tournament to tie for 12th – the best finish of his career – and his second straight top 20 finish.
Freshman Brock Ochsenreiter closed with a 4-over par 75 in his final round and came in tied for 29th at 5-over par for the tournament. It also marks his second consecutive top 30 finish after coming in tied for 16th at the Grand Canyon Invitational last time out.
Junior Brendon Doyle also carded a 75 in his final round and ended the tournament tied for 57th at 13-over par.
As mentioned above, Christian Fairbanks played well as an individual with an even par round of 71 on Sunday to tie for 12th place at 2-over for the tournament, which sets a new career-best for a 54-hole tournament finish.
Senior Keegan Vea used a final round 74 to finish in a tie for 32nd at 6-over par with sophomore Trevor Ranton just behind him at 8-over par for the tournament after a 76 in his final round. And senior Will Seger logged a 73 on Sunday and tied for 70th at 13-over par for the tournament.
Next up for Indiana will be a trip to West Lafayette, Indiana, for the Boilermaker Intercollegiate on April 15-16.
