Indiana Earns 4-3 Win Over Michigan State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's tennis (11-8, 2-3) played an outdoor home match for the first time this season and came away with a 4-3 win over the Michigan State Spartans.
The Hoosiers picked up the doubles point and tallied wins at the three, four, and five singles spots in the win.
IU had little trouble in doubles as they began their day with a 6-1 win at the three spot from junior Keivon Tabrizi and sophomore Afonso Salgado. Minutes later, freshmen Bennett Crane and Zac Brodney gave Indiana its first point with a 6-2 at the second spot. The duo picked up their ninth win of the season.
Michigan State answered with a singles win at the two spot, but Crane followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the four spot.
After a Spartans win at six, the Hoosiers turned on the jets and won pivotal matches at five and three singles to claim the conference win. Sophomore Oliver Sec won his fifth match of the dual season, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Senior Matthew McCoy locked it up when he rallied from down in the first set to win 7-5, and then win 6-3 in the second set.
Next weekend, the Hoosiers will be tested when they travel to Columbus for a meeting with the Ohio State Buckeyes, No. 2 in the latest ITA ranking. Before heading back to Bloomington, IU will face the Penn State Nittany Lions in State College.
