BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The IU Athletics Ticket Office was named Indiana University's Student Employer of the Year as announced last week by the IU Bloomington Career Development Center. The announcement came in conjunction with National Student Employment Week as recognized by the National Student Employment Association (NSEA).
The IU Ticket Office currently employs around 70 students each year. Students play a vital role and are an important component to the ticket office. Student employees perform a variety of duties from working ticket windows at events, answer phone inquiries, assist with the shipping and delivery of tickets as well as helping out in other areas of the department when called upon.
Students are often times the first point of contact for fans of IU Athletics and the ticket office relies heavily on its high-quality student employees that interact with IU fans every single day.
"Congratulations to Assistant Athletic Director Mike Osmundson and his staff in the IU Athletics Ticket Office on this much-deserved recognition," IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass said. "Our student employees are an invaluable part of our customer service efforts and this recognition signifies that they feel valued and appreciated by our staff. We are thrilled that students have had such a meaningful and positive work experience with IU Athletics."
Courtney Schwerin is a current student employee and nominated the ticket office for this award.
"I have worked in the (IU Ticket Office) in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for about a year and a half now, and it has been an amazing experience," Schwerin said. "I plan on staying another year and a half until I graduate, and even then it will be sad to say goodbye. All of the full-time employees are kind and understanding, and very willing to answer questions that will aid professional development outside of the ticket office. I appreciate the fact that even though there are around 70 student workers, the full0-time staff makes an effort to get to know each of us on an individual basis."
The IU Ticket Office hires students each year. For any IU students interested in a job with the ticket office, they can send their resume to iuticket@indiana.edu or look for job postings on the IU Career Development site.
