
Smith Leads Hoosiers on Senior Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana water polo senior Bronwyn Smith guided the No. 17 Hoosiers to an exhibition win over McKendree, 21-1, on Friday evening. The Hoosiers reserved their Senior Night ceremony for this exhibition, and their one-woman senior class delivered with the performance of the game.
Smith stuffed the stat sheet in the final regular season competition of her career. She scored a hat trick; set one assist; forced three steals; drew an exclusion that led to a goal; and scored a five-meter penalty shot. The Harleysville, Pennsylvania center even donned the Hoosiers' 1B cap for four minutes in the final period, registering the first goalkeeper save of her career.
The action began quickly for Smith. She dished her assist to Mollie Williams on the fast break for a 3-0 lead in the first period. Nearing the end of the first, Smith converted a five-meter shot before scoring again in the run of play 30 seconds later. She completed the hat trick by the end of the third period and led the Hoosiers in steals along the way.
Williams, Emily Powell, and Sarah Myers also completed hat tricks in the win, playing a crucial role in Indiana's 4-for-6 effort in 6-on-5 situations.
Elsewhere in the cage, Jessica Gaudreault and Davis Simmons linked together a flawless 28 minutes in goal. Gaudreault and Simmons combined for 11 saves and three assists in transition, allowing zero goals.

The Hoosiers have the pleasure of hosting the 2017 CWPA Championships this season, guaranteeing another three games inside the friendly confines of the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. After a 5-3 finish to the CWPA season, the Hoosiers earned the tournament's fourth seed. They will face fifth-seeded Harvard (14-12) on Friday, April 28 at 4:30 p.m. ET in the first round.
The Hoosiers faced the Crimson in the final weekend of the CWPA season, taking a 7-3 victory in Providence, Rhode Island. The winner of this game slides into the semifinals against the winner between top-seeded Michigan (25-8) and the 8/9 play-in game.
