Three Boats Advance To ‘A’ Final at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – With sunny skies and warm temperatures, the setting was just right for the 20th ranked Indiana women's rowing team to put together their best performances so far this season at the Clemson Invitational. Highlighted by the 1V8 winning their afternoon heat, they will be joined in the "A" finals on Sunday by the 2V8 and Novice 8.

The 1V8 had the best day of all the Hoosiers crews when looking at where their times ranked among the other 20 crews competing. In the morning session, the Hoosiers' time of 6:24.0 was good for second in their heat and fifth overall. Then in the afternoon, with the wind a little stronger, the registered a time of 6:25.8 to edge out Washington State at the line by six tenths of a second for first place. That afternoon time was the third-best of all 21 crews.

Just behind 1V8 in terms of impressive results was the 2V8, who needed a strong race in the afternoon to make the "A" final and they got it. After their time of 6:30.7 in the morning was good for third in their heat and seventh overall, they improved in the afternoon to finish fifth overall with a time of 6:34.3.

The Novice 8 continued to show their improvement on the season and were rewarded with a trip to the "A" final on Sunday after two strong races on Saturday. They began the regatta with a time of 6:56.7 in the morning to finish third in their heat but sixth out of the 14 novice/3V8 crews. While their afternoon time earned a fourth place finish in their heat, it was six seconds faster than the morning time.

For the 1V4 crew, they posted a time of 7:26.2 in the morning to finish sixth in their heat and then crossed the line in 7:34.1 in the afternoon to finish seventh in their heat. They will compete in the "C" final on Sunday.

The 2V4 will advance to the "C" final on Sunday after their performances on Saturday. The opened with a time of 7:37.1 in the morning and then 7:40.7 in the afternoon.
