BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team has added senior middle blocker Kristen Ostach to the roster for the 2017 season. Ostach, a native of Beaver Falls, Pa., played four years at Fordham University and will have one year of eligibility.
In her senior season at Fordham, Ostach, the team captain, appeared in 27 of 29 matches and finished third on the team in kills with 138. Her .257 hitting percentage was the best on the team. Ostach led the team with 11 solo blocks and finished second on the team with 56 total blocks.
"We thought it was very important to bring Kristen into our program with one year remaining in her career," IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan said. "She will graduate from Fordham in May and really wanted a next level challenge for her final season. She was the captain of their team and a starting middle. It seemed like a good fit both ways especially because we'll have 11 freshmen and sophomores in the fall. She will add immediate experience to a very tough position and has great work ethic in training."
After having her sophomore season cut short after the opening match, due to injury, Ostach registered a combined 272 kills and 105 blocks in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Ostach was a three-year student-athlete at Blackhawk High School and led her team to two Sectional Titles. Ostach posted a number of school records while at Blackhawk, including the most assisted blocks, solo blocks and total blocks in a season. She also holds the single season school record for hitting percentage (.441).
Ostach is the daughter of Carl and Robin Ostach and has one brother, Cory, who attends Slippery Rock University.
Set to graduate in May with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Ostach has been accepted into the Kelley School of Business at Indiana with a focus in Strategic Management.
