Matthews, Nacouzi Garner CWPA Tournament All-Star Accolades
At the conclusion of the 2017 CWPA Championship, the conference announced their selections to the CWPA Tournament All-Star Team. Junior defender Kelly Matthews and freshman attacker Joelle Nacouzi were named to the tournament's second team after stellar weekend performances in Bloomington.
Matthews follows her first team All-CWPA honor with her third consecutive appearance on the All-Tournament squad. This weekend, Matthews co-led the goal tally with 10 scores, along with 6 assists, 4 steals, and a field block. This brings Matthews' season total to 61 goals and her three-year count to 207, passing Brooke Zimmerman (206; 2006-08) for fifth-place on IU's all-time career leaderboard.
The award is Matthews' 11th career honor from the CWPA. The junior was a first team All-Tournament member in 2015 and 2016, taking home Rookie of the Tournament honors in 2015.
Nacouzi receives her first career award from the CWPA with her second team selection. She finished the tournament weekend with 3 goals, an assist, and 3 steals, playing a crucial role in Indiana's transition play on offense and defense. She also won 3-of-4 opening sprints, lifting her season total to 16-of-22 sprint wins.
It's no secret that Nacouzi made an instant impact on the Hoosiers since her arrival in January. Nacouzi finished the year with 30 assists (T-2nd, team), 37 goals (2nd – IU freshmen), and 40 steals (3rd – Team).
Since the award was introduced in the 2015 postseason, Indiana has placed at least two players on each of the CWPA's All-Tournament teams.
