Indiana Women’s Basketball to Hold Season Celebration on April 25

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's basketball program will hold its 2016-17 season celebration on Tuesday, April 25 at 7 p.m. ET inside the Henke Hall of Champions. The public is invited to be a part of the dinner and banquet by reserving a seat or table.
The event will recognize individual student-athletes who received academic and Big Ten honors during the season while presenting annual letter awards. There will also be a special recognition of Indiana's five-member senior class of Jenn Anderson, Amber Deane, Alexis Gassion, Karlee McBride and Tyshee Towner.
The Henke Hall of Champions is located on the third floor inside the North End Zone of Memorial Stadium. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. followed by the program.

A Year to Celebrate
It was another historical year for the 2016-17 Indiana Women's Basketball program, who won a single season record 23 games en route to an appearance in the WNIT quarterfinals. They also tied the most games played in a single season (34) and set a new school record for points scored in a single season (2,547). They also finished the season averaging the most points in a single season (74.9) and dished out the most assists (564). The Hoosiers' 934 field goals rank second in a season and finished with 216 3-pointers made (third) and a 33.9 3-point field goal percentage (fourth).
Indiana recorded non-conference record of 11-4 and finished fourth in the Big Ten with a 10-6 record in 2016-17. Highlights included non-conference wins over Vanderbilt, at Chattanooga and against Florida while conference play saw a sweep of Penn State, a win at Wisconsin for the first time since 2009, and an upset of No. 20 Michigan at home. The four-year senior class of Jenn Anderson, Alexis Gassion and Karlee McBride also finished its career as the all-time winningest class in program history, recording 80 wins.
A 15-3 record inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall capped off the program's fourth-time its won 14 or more games at home and secured 10 or more wins on its home court for the fourth-straight season. It also marked the fifth-straight season IU has held a winning record in Bloomington including all three years under head coach Teri Moren.
There was also an abundant amount of individual player accolades as well, including three All-Big Ten selections for the first time since 2008-09 with repeat first team selection Tyra Buss leading the way. Buss, who earned back-to-back All-Big Ten first team honors for the first time for IU since 2001-02, was also recognized on the national level on the Naismith Top 50 Preseason Watch List, Wade Trophy Watch List and WBCA All-Region 4 honoree. Junior Amanda Cahill was an All-Big Ten second team selection while senior Alexis Gassion was All-Big Ten honorable mention and the first IU player since 2009 to earn a place on the league's All-Defensive team. The trio also each scored their 1,000th points this season, becoming the 24th, 25th and 26th members of IU's 1,000-point club. Four players (Buss, Cahill, Gassion and sophomore Tia Elbert) were also named Academic All-Big Ten selections.
