Morrison Breaks Shot Put Record at Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Day two of the Tennessee Relays came to a close with another school record falling. Two athletes also cracked the top 10 in their respective events.
In the men's shot put, Willie Morrison captured fourth place with a throw of 19.48m (63-11). His mark eclipsed the previous school record, set by Nathan Davis in 1996, by just one inch. Morrison also holds the indoor shot put record. Khayla Dawson took sixth in the shot put with a heave of 15.32m (50-3.25). Finishing eighth was Nycia Ford. Her best toss of the evening was 14.02m (46-0).
After a grueling two days and 10 events of competition, Andrew Huber emerged first in the men's decathlon. He concluded day one in second place, trailing by just 11 points. He quickly took over the top spot, securing 798 points in the opening event of the day, as he ran the 110m hurdles in a time of 15.43.
In the seventh event, the discus, Huber scored 533 points with a throw of 33.44m (109-8). His biggest point total of the day came in the pole vault. Huber cleared 4.70m (15-5), nearly two feet higher than any other competitor, to tally 819 points. He hurled the javelin 54.16m (177-8) to score 650 points, stretching his lead to nearly 400 points heading into the last event. Huber finished the day with 6,870 points, the eighth highest point total in school history, to win the decathlon.
In the women's 1,500m run, Katherine Receveur took silver with a time of 4:21.51, the seventh best time in school history. Brenna Calder was a half stride behind, finishing in 4:21.54. Corinne Cominator placed seventh with a mark of 4:28.32. On the men's side, Joe Murphy crossed fifth in 3:46.85. Kyle Burks was the third runner to cross the finish line in the 3,000m Steeplechase.
Ari Nelson was the long jump runner-up with a mark of 6.06m (19-10.75). Jenna Jungels finished sixth with a leap of 5.99m (19-8).
William Session won his first career outdoor collegiate meet. His time of 14.17 was the quickest in the 110m hurdles. Zach Reitzug finished fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.71. On the women's side, Mackenzie Bollinger finished eighth with a time of 1:01.84.
Taylor Williams crossed second in her heat, and sixth overall, in the 400m dash with a time of 55.15. Markevious Roach finished ninth in the men's 400m dash. Kyle Mau took fifth in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.03. Cooper Williams finished just behind in sixth.
The third and final day of action in Knoxville will begin at about 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning with the women's discus throw. Track events are slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women's distance medley relay.
