Indiana Earns Split at Big Ten Double Dual

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – On a beautiful day for racing on Lake Lemon outside Bloomington, the Indiana Rowing team played host to three other Big Ten crews for the Big Ten Double Dual. The Hoosiers lost to No. 4 Ohio State in the morning before rebounding for a commanding win against Rutgers in the afternoon.

With temperatures in the 40s to start the day but gradually climbing into the 60s, the water was flat and there was a headwind of 4-8mph throughout the day.

The final team score against Ohio State had the Buckeyes coming away with the 44-22 win before the Hoosiers flipped the score and were on the positive side of a 44-22 win against Rutgers in the afternoon.

In the morning session of racing, the Hoosiers took on No. 4 Ohio State and competed with the defending Big Ten champions. The 1V8 race saw the Buckeyes win by a 7.22 margin, with the Hoosiers finishing second in a time of 6:56.72.

The 2V8 race ended with Ohio State crossing the finish line 17.8 seconds ahead of the Hoosiers while the V4 for IU also finished behind OSU by 23.6 seconds. The 2V4's time of 8:20.0 was 28.1 seconds behind Ohio State while the N8 battled well and clocked a time of 7:21.2, coming in 11.7 seconds behind Ohio State.

Against Rutgers, Indiana won four of the five races by at least 20 seconds, highlighted by the 1V8 cruising to a 27.8 second win with a time of 6:52.3. The closest race of the afternoon for IU was in the 2V8 race, as Indiana pulled away late and used a time of 7:09.2 to win by 8.3 seconds.

The 2V4 win by a commanding 35.5 seconds and the 2V4 crossed the line 23.7 seconds in front of Rutgers. Rounding out the session scoring was the N8 and their time of 7:26.1 that was 27.9 seconds ahead of the Scarlet Knights.

The 3V4 crew raced against crews from Iowa and Ohio State in the morning and afternoon and finished third both times. In the morning, they registered a time of 8:28.6 and then 8:44.9 in the afternoon.

Indiana will be off next weekend and then return to action April 22-23 at the prestigious Clemson Invitational.
