Sophomore Pauly Milto (2-2) picked up the win following a 7.1 inning effort where he did not surrender a walk and scattered seven hits with three strikeouts. He allowed five earned runs, four of which came late in the contest.
Senior Craig Dedelow drove in a game-high four RBI, three of which came off his eighth home run. Sophomore Luke Miller also homered in the game to go along with three RBI, with junior Logan Sowers, sophomore Matt Lloyd and sophomore Ryan Fineman each delivering two RBI apiece. Sowers finished with three hits, while Lloyd and Fineman posted two hits. Senior Alex Krupa also picked up two hits and an RBI.
Indiana jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Lloyd placed a 1-1 offering from Mike Kornacker off the scoreboard in left-center field. The Boilermakers looked to even the score in the bottom of the first with Evan Warden reaching third base, but Milto was able to force a strikeout and groundout to escape the jam.
Purdue found its answer in the second inning with Jacson McGowan's solo home run to even the game at 1-1.
IU's offense exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning, with the Hoosiers batting around for the sixth time this season and matching its season-high in runs scored in an inning. A leadoff single by Fineman and a sacrifice bunt by senior Tony Butler set up Fineman to score on Krupa's RBI single up the middle. Miller followed with a three-run home run, which also scored freshman Jeremy Houston, who earned a free pass with a hit-by-pitch and put Indiana up 5-1 at the time. Back-to-back singles by Lloyd and Sowers put two on base for Dedelow's eighth blast of the season, giving Indiana an 8-1 edge.
IU added two runs to hit double digits in the sixth. Loading the bases with no outs, Sowers delivered an RBI single down the right field line to score Houston, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. Dedelow then drove in the Hoosiers' 10th run with a sacrifice fly, plating Krupa, who walked on four-straight pitches.
Three walks and a single moved IU's lead to 10 runs in the seventh inning, as Lloyd took Hunter Wolfe to a full count before earning a walk, which scored Butler, who also walked following a 3-2 count.
Milto breezed through his fourth 1-2-3 inning in the seventh before Fineman tagged a one-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth, putting IU up 13-1. Purdue had its best showing off Milto in the bottom of the inning, as a leadoff home run by Bryce Bonner made the score 13-2. The Boilermakers then placed back-to-back singles to the outfield to put two on with one away. Harry Shipley's two-RBI single cut the deficit to 13-4. Purdue mustered one more run out of IU's bullpen to make it a 13-5 ballgame before Sabol closed the door with runners on second and third and picked up a groundout and strikeout.
One final Hoosier run in the ninth inning came off an RBI double by Sowers, which scored Krupa, who singled and stole a base to get into scoring position for Sowers' delivery.
Nick Dalesando used a two-out grand slam in the ninth to bring the game to 14-9.
Indiana next travels to Indiana State on Tuesday with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
