BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Athletics teams continue to excel in the classroom according to the most recent NCAA Academic Progress Report (APR) data which was released today. Ten Indiana programs earned perfect 1,000 APR scores for the 2015-16 academic year and four teams earned perfect multi-year scores (four years).
The 10 IU programs earning a perfect APR score for 2015-16 academic year include field hockey, men's cross country, men's golf, men's tennis, softball, women's cross country, women's soccer, women's tennis, women's track and field and wrestling. The four teams that earned perfect multi-year scores of 1,000 for Indiana were field hockey, men's golf, volleyball and women's tennis.
"Reaching our highest academic potential and earning Indiana University degrees is a top priority and these scores reflect our commitment to academic excellence," IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass said. "I want to congratulate our students for their outstanding achievements in the classroom."
Last week, the NCAA also gave the IU field hockey, men's golf, women's tennis and volleyball programs with APR public recognition which recognizes teams that posted a multi-year APR in the top 10 percent of all squads in each spot base on the most recent multi-year APR reports (through 2015-16).
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Noting The APR
• The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
• To compete in 2017-18 NCAA championships, teams must earn a 930 four-year average APR.
• The goal of the NCAA's academic performance program is improvement, not punishment. Not only does the program ensure accountability for student-athletes, teams and institutions, but also it provides fairness by considering individual circumstances per team and school.
