BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Softball alumna CaraMia Tsirigos has been named to the Greek Softball Federation's Women's National Team, the organization announced on Monday. Tsirigos will compete with the team in the European Softball Championship in Bollate, Italy from June 25 to July 1.
"I am honored and grateful for the Greek National Team choosing me to compete on the international level," said Tsirigos. "It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the chance to one day maybe compete for the Olympics. I look forward to honoring my father's heritage and the nation of Greece in the best way I know."
Tsirigos completed her Hoosier career this May and finished tied for fifth all-time in program history with 25 career homers and second with 117 walks.
The Atlanta, Ga. native earned numerous accolades during her senior campaign, including First Team All-Big Ten and NFCA Third Team All-Region. In addition, Tsirigos was awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor and named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team.
The Senior Women's National Team will be coached by Tony Foti in the European Softball Championship, which will feature teams from 23 nations. Greece will compete in Pool B with the Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia, Ireland and Lithuania. The event is the first step in a series for the qualification process for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, which will be the first Games with softball since 2008.
Tsirigos graduated from Indiana earlier this month and will attend graduate school at Georgetown in the fall.
