BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sydney Clute was honored on the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's Track and Field/Cross Country teams, the organization announced late last week.
Clute, from Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind., is a three-time Big Ten Champion in the pole vault. She holds the conference record in the event with a clearance of 4.55m (14-11), a Conference Championships Meet record with a mark of 4.43m (14-6.25). After her dominating win this past Outdoor Big Ten Championships, Clute was named Big Ten Women's Field Athlete of the Championships. She has earned First-Team All-America honors twice, finishing eighth at the Outdoor NCAA Championships in 2014 and fourth a season ago. In 2016 Clute finished with Second-Team All-America distinctions in the indoor season.
On top of her athletic achievements, Sydney earned her marketing degree in just three years, allowing her to graduate with a master's degree in Tourism Hospitality earlier this month. Clute also served as the President of the University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during her senior year. The group is committed to serving and providing equal opportunities for all student-athletes.
Clute is one of the six Hoosiers that punched a ticket into the NCAA Championships. She currently holds the third highest clearance in the country and enters the championships as one of the favorites in the pole vault.
