Alexis Gassion Signs Professional Contract

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Basketball alum Alexis Gassion has signed a professional contract to play in Finland next season.
Gassion will suit up for Kouvottaret of Finland's Korisliga league as she signed her contract on Monday. She will join the team in September with the season running from late October through March.
"I am extremely excited to continue my professional career overseas in Finland," Gassion said "I would like to thank my family and coaches who have gotten me to this point and can't wait to experience a new level of competition."
Gassion was a Big Ten All-Defensive team and All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2016-17 as she averaged 12.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. She also chipped in 4.6 assists per game and shot 46 percent from the floor along with a 32.7 percent 3-point range.
The Fairborn, Ohio native finished her career 13th all-time in career scoring with 1,343 points and ninth all-time in rebounds with 749. She became the eighth player in school history to record 1,300 points and 700 rebounds in her career while also finishing in the top 10 in blocks with 82 (ninth all-time). In 2016-17, she scored in double figures in 26 games and set a new career-high with 26 points against Minnesota. She also pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds against Oakland which was the seventh-best single game performance at Indiana.
"We want to congratulate Alexis on continuing her basketball career overseas," Indiana head coach Teri Moren said. "She has worked extremely hard especially in the last season to elevate her game and is being rewarded for her accomplishments. We want her to know that her Hoosier family is rooting for her every step of the way."
She was part of Indiana's all-time winningest class, collecting 80 wins and earning three postseason berths. Gassion made 115 career starts for the cream and crimson while averaging 31.4 minutes per game.
Gassion received her degree in human development and family studies from IU in May 2017.
