TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – After a bout of rain and Indiana University's spring graduation forced the Hoosiers to cancel the Billy Hayes Invitational, a group of 15 runners headed just west to compete in the Indiana State Twilight in Terre Haute.
Jeyland Valentin took third in the 400m hurdles. The sophomore's time of 1:00.60 is the eight quickest time in school history. Markevious Roach blew away the competition in the men's 400m dash. His time of 47.68 was over a second quicker than the second place finisher. On the women's side, Riley Egbula was the third to cross with a time of 58.14.
Megan Grabowski squeaked out a photo-finish victory in the 100m dash. Her time of 12.00 barely edged out an Indiana State runner, who finished just .01 seconds behind. Jaela Gay and Brittany Thomas finished third and fourth, respectively.
Indoor All-American, Joe Murphy earned a second place finish in the invitational section of the men's 1,500m run. His time of 3:44.30 just missed the leader's pace. Kyle Mau, another Indoor All-American, finished fourth with a time of 3:45.78. Kyle Burks finished as the runner-up in the steeplechase with a time of 9:17.33.
Each of IU's three men's 800m runners finished inside the top third of the competition. Cooper Williams was the first Hoosier to finish, taking third with a time of 1:51.60. Jordan Huntoon captured fourth and Adam Wallace crossed in seventh. On the women's side, Kelsey Harris captured second with a time of 2:11.13. Kendell Wiles finished third in the race.
The Hoosiers will be back in action a week from today with the start of the Big Ten Championships at University Park, Pa. on the campus of Penn State University. The meet will be held from May 12-14.
