Barber Named to 2017 Pocock All-America Team

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced the 2017 Pocock All-America honors on Tuesday and Indiana senior Emily Barber was named to the second team. She becomes the seventh rower in IU history to be named an All-American and the fourth different IU rower in the last four years.
Barber, a native of Zionsville, Indiana, was named First Team All-Region last week and brought home First Team All-Big Ten honors at the Big Ten Championships after helping the Hoosiers 1V8 to a third place finish. That finish also propelled Indiana to its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships, where the team placed 12th.
This also marks the fourth consecutive season that Indiana has had an All-America honoree and it is the ninth time overall that Indiana has had an All-American. The complete list of IU rowing All-Americans is as follows:

The All-American awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains on the national level in women's collegiate rowing. General requirements for nominating a student-athlete for CRCA post-season honors are:
-The student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
-The student-athlete must have rowed at least 75% of the current spring season's races in the varsity boat (before and including May 19, 2017)
– The student-athlete must be nominated by her institution
– The Head Coach of the student-athlete's institution must be a member in good standing of the CRCA
The nominated student-athletes are then selected to 1st and 2nd teams based on the following criteria:
– Strength of finish of the institution's varsity eight within the country
– Coach comments
– 2k erg score
