
New Zealand Native Signs With Indiana Rowing

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – Indiana rowing head coach Steve Peterson announced that Madison Wright, a native of Hamilton, New Zealand, has signed to join the Indiana Rowing program starting in the fall of 2017. She joins the five students that signed National Letters of Intent in November 2016 to join the program for the 2017-18 academic year.
Wright won a gold medal in the Senior Women's Coxless Quad at the North Island Club Championships in 2017 and also placed fourth at the Women's U-19 coxed four at the New Zealand Club Championships. In 2016, she collected a gold medal at the girls U-18 coxless pair at the NISSC regatta and took fifth at Nationals MAADI Cup. Wright also brought home gold medals at the MAADI Cup in 2014 and 2013. While rowing for Hillcrest High School, she garnered Female Rower of the Year accolades in 2015 and 2016 and was the Sports Captain as a senior.
Outside of rowing, she also competed in Soccer, Volleyball, Water polo and Dance. The daughter of Blair Wright and Carol DuBois-Wright, she plans to major in Psychology/Neuroscience at Indiana.
The five students that signed previously include Jordan Miller (Brisbane, Australia), Larissa Moffat (Granite Bay, California), Rosie Munro (Kununurra, Australia), Emily Schutzman (Edgewood, Kentucky) and transferring to IU from Notre Dame is Hilary Shinnick (Kildorrery Co. Cork, Ireland).
Indiana is coming off its fourth straight trip to the NCAA Championships, where they finished 12th as a team. They are one of nine programs that have finished inside the top 15 in each of the last four NCAA Championships.

Munro competed at the Australia National Rowing Championships on two occasions … also rowed in the Queensland School State Rowing Championships twice and was named Rower of the Year in 2015 and 2016 … helped her Double Scull to a third place finish at the state championships as a sophomore … as a senior, her Open First Eight finished second at the Queensland Schools State Championship … she garnered a fifth place finish in the Coxed and Coxless Quads at the Australian National Championships … her U19 Double Scull earned fifth place at the Australian National Rowing Championships in 2015 … coached by Oleg Shishkin and Warren Row at Somerville House and Michael Russell at University of Queensland Boat Club … parents are Hugh and Helen Munro … has two brothers.
