
Indiana’s King Wins Second Gold at FINA World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Another day, another world record and world championship for Indiana University's Lilly King at the 2017 FINA Swimming World Championships on Wednesday in Budapest, Hungary.
Swimming in the mixed 4x100 medley relay championship final, King helped Team USA set the world record with a time of 3:38.56. King was the only female breaststroker in the event, posting a time just off her world record mark from Tuesday at 1:04.15.
King, who won the world title in the 100 breast with a world record time of 1:04.13 on Tuesday, collected her second gold medal of the FINA World Championships. The Evansville, Ind. native will also swim the 200 breaststroke, 50 breaststroke and the women's 4x100 medley relay this week for Team USA.
IU postgrad swimmer Zane Grothe placed eighth in the world in the 800 freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 7:52.43. This was the second championship final for Grothe this week at the World Championships, as he placed seventh in the 400 free on Sunday.
Earlier in prelims, IU's Mohamed Samy, swimming for Team Egypt, placed 32nd overall in the men's 100 freestyle with a time of 49.42.
King will be back in the pool on Thursday as she begins competition in the women's 200 breast. Prelims are scheduled to begin at 3:30 a.m. ET, with the finals session on Thursday starting at 11:30 a.m. ET.
