BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University will host a leg of the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Summer Circuit this weekend with play in the Bloomington Regional beginning on Saturday, July 29.
Among the participants in this year's field will be IU women's tennis students Caitlin Bernard, Natalie Whalen, Anna McCoy and incoming freshmen Andjelija Bozovic and Michelle McKamey.
Nearly 30,000 men and women have competed in ITA Summer Circuit events since it began in 1993. The circuit provides college (and junior and alumni) players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year round. Although the primary focus of the circuit is to provide incoming freshman and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months, for NCAA compliance purposes, the events within the ITA Summer Circuit are categorized as "open"; therefore anyone is eligible to compete in these events as long as he/she is a current ITA member.
The ITA Summer Circuit will run for six weekends, beginning the last weekend in June and continuing through the last weekend in July. Players that advance out of the qualifying tournaments will head to Texas Christian University to take part in the ITA Summer Nationals, held Aug. 12-15.
The circuit is the brainchild of former Indiana head women's tennis coach Lin Loring and provides college tennis players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year round.
