Whalen, Appel Set for National Summer Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Juniors Natalie Whalen and Madison Appel will compete this week at the 2017 ITA National Summer Championships.
The event will be held Aug. 12-15 hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
Both Whalen and Appel have had a great summer of competition. Whalen won the ITA Summer Circuit event in Bloomington July 29-31. Whalen finished in the top-five in points for the ITA Summer Circuit this year.
Both Whalen and Appel are seeded for the championships, which start on Saturday Aug. 12.
Nearly 30,000 men and women have competed in ITA Summer Circuit events since it began in 1993. The circuit provides college (and junior and alumni) players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year-round. Although the primary focus of the circuit is to provide incoming freshmen and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months, for NCAA compliance purposes, the events within the ITA Summer Circuit are categorized as "open"; therefore, anyone is eligible to compete in these events as long as he/she is a current ITA member.
