BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – With 12 Hoosiers part of National Football League organizations, Indiana is well represented in the professional ranks. Each week throughout the year, IUHoosiers.com will provide updates on these former IU standouts.
In a battle of California squads, the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Oakland Raiders by a score of 24-21. The Ram starting lineup was able to find the end zone on two of their possessions in the first half. Rodger Saffold helped to anchor the rushing attack, that averaged nearly five yards per carry during that span and only yielded one sack. Darius Latham registered three solo tackles in the loss. The second-year pro will look to earn a rotational spot on the defensive front for the Raiders.
A pair of former Hoosiers squared off in the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins exhibition game on Saturday evening. For the Redskins, quarterback Nate Sudfeld performed very well, completing 6-of-11 passes for 64 yards. He also had one rush for five yards. Jason Spriggs saw 30 snaps on the Packer offensive line. The Packers won the contest, 21-17.
The Los Angeles Chargers faced off with the New Orleans Saints. Dan Feeney, who will continue to push for a starting spot on the Charger offensive line, played at both guard spots and center for the second consecutive week. LA executives continue to be impressed with Feeney's versatility. Mitchell Paige brought in one of his two targets for six yards. He was also active in the return game, returning two punts for 16 yards.
Devine Redding had an increased role for the Kansas City Chiefs victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday evening. The two-time 1,000-yard rusher in college toted five carries in the contest. He was also involved in a special team tackle in the 30-12 win.
Wide receiver Shane Wynn hauled in both of his targets for 11 yards in the Jacksonville Jaguars 12-8 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wynn also returned one kick on Thursday night. The Atlanta Falcons fell just short against the Pittsburgh Steelers, 17-13. Running back Tevin Coleman had two carriers for the Atlanta Falcons.
