Hoosiers Open Season with Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The 2017 Indiana Volleyball team will take the court for the first time on Friday Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m. ET against Ball State as part of the Indiana Invitational Aug. 25-26 at University Gym.
University Gym is located at 2721 E 10th Street. It is near the intersection of 10th street and the 45/46 bypass.
The Hoosiers have won the Indiana Invitational in each of the last five years. Last year Kendall Beerman was the MVP of the tournament. Indiana has won at least one non-conference tournament in each of head coach Sherry Dunbar Kruzan's 10 seasons in Bloomington.

2016 in Review
The Hoosiers are coming off their best season since 2010 as they finished 17-16 overall in the 2016 season. The team started 9-0 for the fourth time in school history and went 11-2 in non-conference play. The Big Ten slate was highlighted by wins over No. 13 Michigan and No. 22 Ohio State. In all, the Hoosiers beat four teams that made the NCAA Tournament.
The 2017 Roster
With the graduation of five seniors there will be many new faces on the 2017 roster. The team includes 11 freshmen and sophomores and six newcomers. In addition to the five freshmen, the Hoosiers have also added graduate student Kristen Ostach. Ostach completed her undergraduate education at Fordham and was the team captain in her senior year.
The Indiana Invitational
The Hoosiers have not played any of the opponents in the Indiana Invitational in quite some time. The most recent match was in 2010 against DePaul. Indiana has not played Ball State since 2008 and has not matched up against Indiana State since 2005. The Hoosiers own a combined record of 44-16 against Ball State, DePaul and Indiana State.
Broadcasting of the Tournament
The Hoosiers three matches will be video streamed on BTN Plus and there will also be a radio broadcast available on IUHoosiers.Com. Indiana Volleyball broadcaster Tyler Sorg will handle play-by-play duties on the BTN Plus broadcasts.
Promotions
For the match on Friday there will be a special tailgate for Red Zone members. Free pizza will be available. There will also be a schedule magnet giveaway for everyone inside University Gym.
On Saturday night, there will be a student tailgate and pizza will be delivered at 5:30 p.m. There will also be the schedule magnet giveaway.
