Parsons, Johnson to Play in USGA Women’s Amateur

Chula Vista, Calif. – Incoming freshman Mary Parsons will represent and Indiana Women's Golf in the U.S. Women's Amateur August 7-13 at the San Diego Country Club. Also competing is former Hoosier Shannon Johnson.
Parsons shot a 73 to qualify for the event, finishing second overall, at the Richmond Country Club in Richmond, British Columbia. Her 1-over finish in the qualifier was one stroke behind winner Katherine Chann (72). She completed the 18-hole qualifier with four birdies, two each on the front and back nine.
In one season with the Hoosiers (2005-06), Johnson competed in 32 rounds of play, earning All-Big Ten honors in 2006 after leading the team with a 74.38 stroke average.
The field of 156 players will kick off with stroke play on August 7-8 with a round of 18 holes each day. The low 64 scorers advance to match play August 8-9 with quarterfinal, semifinal and championship matches to be held August 11-13. Fans can watch the event live on FS1 or usga.org.
