Postgame Quotes: Indiana vs. Wake Forest
September 1, 2017
Indiana Head Coach Amanda Janney
On the team's execution of the game plan against Wake Forest…
"Wake is a smart, finesse passing team with a great playing style, so it was tough for us. We put together a good game plan to pressure them and their backfield. It's such a good team win because they trusted the game plan. We did a couple of things we don't normally do, but we were able to scout them and it worked really well."
On Katie Johnson's first career shutout and career victory…
"We were able to weather the storm in the second half, and our defense really stepped up. We had Andi [Jackson] playing side back along with Nora Aucker and Sofia Keen, and Elle did phenomenal to prevent good scoring opportunities. KJ was key to the win today, she was so aggressive to come off of her line and make some big plays for us."
On securing Indiana's first ACC win in her tenure against her alma mater…
"Beating Wake Forest is huge for me personally. I have so much respect for Jennifer Averill and the program that she's built there. We talked a lot pregame with the team about the ACC vs. the Big Ten and how important these games are. I'm pleased that my philosophy with scheduling difficult teams paid off. Even though we weren't able to get those wins last weekend, playing those tough teams really prepared us for the huge challenge we faced today."
On Sheridan Weiss' unique path to the game-winner…
"The second half really started in Wake's favor, where they went down the field immediately and stayed down on their attack. All of a sudden, the ball swung around the backfield and Sheridan put pressure on their center back. Sheridan jabbed the ball for a breakaway, beat the goalie and took a shot that was blocked and went into the air. Sheridan had great hand-eye coordination to hit it out of the air and knock it into the cage. She has a good nose for the goal and it was a great finish."
Sophomore Sheridan Weiss
Scoring her first career goal in a game-winner over a team Indiana had never beaten before…
"It feels awesome knowing that I was able to do something like that and be a part of something so awesome, Especially getting that win against Wake Forest, our coach's alma mater. That made it all the better to score that goal."
