Hoosiers Open Colonial Challenge With Win Over George Washington

WASHINGTON – Sophomore Meaghan Koors tied a school record with 25 digs in a three-set match and the Hoosiers improved to 4-0 on the season with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-22) win over George Washington on Friday.
Senior Jessica Leish tallied a career-high 15 kills and sophomore setter Victoria Brisack recorded 41 assists. Redshirt sophomore Kendall Beerman recorded 14 kills and hit .379 for the match.
In the first set Leish posted seven kills on 10 attempts with one error for a .600 hitting percentage.
The Hoosiers trailed 11-9 in the opening set, but used a 12-1 run to jump out to a 21-12 lead and won the first set, 25-15.
In the second set the Hoosiers totaled 19 kills and hit .359 as they rolled to a 25-18 set win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set Indiana faced adversity as they trailed 21-17 on an attack error.
After a George Washington service error Beerman connected on a set from Brisack to pull the Hoosiers to within two at 21-19.
The Hoosiers closed the gap to one at 21-20, but the Colonials put one down for a kill to reclaim a two-point lead at 22-20.
Indiana scored the final five points of the set to win the match as the final point came on a kill deep in the court by Beerman.
The Hoosiers will continue play in the Colonial Challenge tomorrow. They take on Hofstra at 10:00 a.m. and LIU Brooklyn at 4:30 p.m.
