Hoosiers Finish 11th At Wolf Run Intercollegiate

ZIONSVILLE, Indiana – The first tournament of the 2017-18 season is in the books and the Indiana Hoosiers logged an 11th place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at Wolf Run Golf Club with a final round score of 310 that put them at 914 for the tournament.

The top individual performance for the tournament belonged to freshman Ethan Shepherd, whose collegiate debut ended with a 78 on Sunday to leave him tied for 18th at +10 (223) for the tournament.

Shepherd's T18 finish is the best by an IU freshman in his collegiate debut since Sean Stone finished T13 at the Northern Intercollegiate in 2012.

The best final round score for IU belonged to junior Jake Brown, who played his back nine at even par to post a 4-over round of 75. His overall tournament score of 225 was 12-over par and good for a tie for 23rd. It is his seventh career Top 25 finish.

Senior Brendon Doyle recorded his best round of the tournament on Sunday, closing with a 77 to put him at 20-over par overall and a tie for 49th.

Sophomore Brock Ochsenreiter and freshman Evan Yakubov both tied for 58th overall after their final round scores of 80 and 81, respectively, on Sunday.

Sophomore transfer Evan Gaesser, who was competing as an individual, was just two over through his first 14 holes on Sunday with two bogeys and 12 pars. But a tough finish to the round left him at 6-over par for the day and a tie for 56th overall with a score of 234.

Christian Fairbanks finished the tournament in 77th place with a score of 241 after his final round 79. And Trevor Ranton carded a 78 in the final round to leave him in 82nd place with a total score of 244.

Indiana returns to action next weekend at the prestigious Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational near Chicago. The tournament gets underway on Friday, Sept. 15 and will feature live scoring on GolfStat.com.
