9/12/2017 3:29:00 PM | Cross Country
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Both the men's and women's cross country teams cracked the top-30 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll after receiving votes in the week one poll.
The women's team earned a ranking of 26th nationally. The same poll has the team ranked third in the Great Lakes Regional. The rankings came out after a dominant showing at the IU Open a couple of weeks back where the Hoosiers toppled three Big Ten rivals. The ranking is the highest by the team since checking in at 21st during the 2013 season. In Big Ten ranks, IU falls behind only Michigan (fourth), Wisconsin (15th), Michigan State (17th) and Minnesota (23rd).
The men's team ranks 27th nationally and second in the Great Lakes Regional. The Hoosier men followed the lead of the women's team, nearly sweeping the top-5 spots to claim victory at the IU Open a handful of days ago. The Hoosiers were last ranked in the top-30 during the sixth week of the polls last season. IU ranks behind only Wisconsin (seventh) and Michigan State (25th) within the conference.
The Hoosiers will be back in action this weekend with a small group of runners heading north to compete in the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships on Purdue's campus. The following week, IU's top runners will head east to Boston to run in the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College.
