BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University men's soccer's senior Grant Lillard was named Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
This past Friday, Lillard helped the Hoosiers play the No. 2-ranked Maryland Terrapins to a 0-0 draw. The Hinsdale, Ill. native played a pivotal role in posting the team's fourth shutout of the season, while not letting the Terrapins get a shot on goal.
Thanks in part to the draw, the Hoosiers (4-0-1) were ranked No. 1 in the nation in the latest Top Drawer Soccer rankings released on Monday.
"Grant is off to a great start this season," IU head coach Todd Yeagley remarked. "He has been fantastic on and off the field as one of our key leaders. He is certainly performing at an All-American level."
Lillard has started all five matches this season for the Hoosiers, helping the team surrender just one goal. IU leads the Big Ten with four shutouts and a team goals against average of 0.19. Prior to the season, Lillard was a consensus First-Team Preseason All-America selection. The senior was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for a second-straight season.
The No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers will return to Bloomington to host Big Ten rival and No. 19-ranked Michigan at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and the match will be broadcast live nationally on the Big Ten Network.
