BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In week two of the weekly installment of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, the men's and women's cross country teams both climbed to their highest rankings of the season.
Last week, the women's team was seeded 26th overall. This week the Hoosiers vaulted up to 18th, tied for the best ranking in program history. Moving up eight spots was also tied with Utah State for the biggest jump in the polls of any team this week. IU is chasing only Michigan (fourth), Penn State (ninth), and Wisconsin (16th) in the Big Ten. Other conference schools in the ranks include: Minnesota (19th), Michigan State (20th) and Ohio State (27th).
The men's team rose six spots in the rankings from last week. Sitting at 21st, the IU team is just one spot from being ranked inside the top-20 for the 10th consecutive season. Indiana ranks behind only Wisconsin (seventh) in the Big Ten conference. Other Big Ten schools in the rankings include: Michigan State (25th), Illinois (27th), Michigan (receiving votes) and Minnesota (receiving votes).
The Hoosiers will be back in action this weekend with a group of runners that head east to Boston to run in the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College. Junior sensation Katherine Receveur will make her season debut this weekend. Bryce Millar will also debut for the men's team. The meet will be the best of the season thus far, and will include a pair of ranked competitors in both the men's and women's races.
