Game Notes: Indiana vs. Georgia Southern

Setting The Scene
• Indiana (1-1, 0-1 B1G East) returns to action after the Florida International cancelation on Sept. 16, when it hosts Georgia Southern (0-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) at Memorial Stadium (52,929; FieldTurf) on Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. EDT and BTN will broadcast the game.
• The Hoosiers return to action after supporting Florida International's decision to cancel the Sept. 16 game in Bloomington in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.
• IU has won nine of its last 10 non-conference games.
• Saturday marks the first meeting between the two programs.
• The 2007 Insight Bowl team is holding its 10-year reunion this weekend.
• Indiana will wear the "Hep's Rock" Primeknit alternate football uniforms, which will pay homage to team tradition and serve as a tribute to the 10-year anniversary of the passing of former head coach Terry Hoeppner.
The Coaches
• Tom Allen made his debut as Indiana head coach at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl. He was named IU's 29th head coach on Dec. 1, 2016. The New Castle, Ind., native joined the Hoosiers as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. A 2016 Broyles Award nominee, Allen engineered one of the top defensive turnarounds in the country, as Indiana improved substantially in every major statistical category. (full bio on page 15)
• Tyson Summers owns a 5-9 record in his second season as Georgia Southern head coach. Summers has a coaching career that has spanned 16 years and seven schools, and he has been a part of seven bowl teams.

• Tom Allen earned his first career victory as Indiana head coach at Virginia.
• Redshirt junior J-Shun Harris II's 44-yard punt return TD at UVa was the first of his career and was a career-long return. Harris totaled 109 punt return yards in the game, the most for any IU player since 1991.
• The Fishers, Ind., native earned Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance. Harris also was named the first nominee for the Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award.
• With his 51-yard field goal in the second quarter, fifth-year senior Griffin Oakes passed Mitch Ewald (2010-13) to become the program's all-time leader. Oakes now owns 55 career field goals.
• The 55 rushing yards allowed by the IU defense were the fewest since limiting Purdue to 42 on Nov. 26, 2016, and the three points allowed in the first half were the fewest since allowing three at Michigan on Nov. 19, 2016.
• Redshirt freshman Peyton Ramsey completed 16-of-20 passes (80.0 percent - 2nd-best in Indiana history) for 173 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing 12 times for 42 yards with one score.
