#IUVB Hosts Big Ten Opener Wednesday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After going 11-1 in non-conference play, their best start since the 2010 season, the Indiana volleyball team welcomes Illinois on Wednesday Sept. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in their first conference match. The match will take place at University Gym.
University Gym is located at 2721 E 10th Street. It is near the intersection of 10th street and the 45/46 bypass.

The Hoosiers started 9-0 for the second straight season. It was the sixth time in program history Indiana has started 9-0 and the first time in school history they have done it in back-to-back seasons.
2016 in Review
The Hoosiers are coming off their best season since 2010 as they finished 17-16 overall in the 2016 season. The team started 9-0 for the fourth time in school history and went 11-2 in non-conference play. The Big Ten slate was highlighted by wins over No. 13 Michigan and No. 22 Ohio State. In all, the Hoosiers beat four teams that made the NCAA Tournament.
The 2017 Roster
With the graduation of five seniors there will be many new faces on the 2017 roster. The team includes 11 freshmen and sophomores and six newcomers. In addition to the five freshmen, the Hoosiers have also added graduate student Kristen Ostach. Ostach completed her undergraduate education at Fordham and was the team captain in her senior year.
The Youth Movement
With 11 freshmen and sophomores the Hoosiers have gotten significant contributions from their younger players. At the George Washington Invitational, sophomore libero Meaghan Koors was named the MVP. Koors tied a program record for digs in a three-set match with 25 in the win over George Washington. Koors has three matches this season with 20 or more digs. Sophomore setter Victoria Brisack currently ranks third in the NCAA in assists per set with 12.25 per set. Sophomore middle blocker Deyshia Lofton ranks 30th in the NCAA in hitting percentage at .409.
On Saturday in the five-set win against Florida Gulf Coast, the youth stepped up in a big way. Freshman Kamryn Malloy came into the match in the third set and tallied nine kills on 12 attempts with no errors for a .750 hitting percentage. Fellow freshman Bayli Lebo led the Hoosiers in digs in the match with a career-high 14. Sophomore Kendall Beerman tied her career-high for kills with 19. Beerman is leading the Hoosiers in kills with 145 and ranks second on the team in digs (108), third in aces (14) and fifth in blocks (12).
Broadcasting of the Tournament
The Hoosiers match on Wednesday will be broadcast on BTN Plus. Tyler Sorg will handle play-by-play and Josh Margolis will be the analyst. Courtney Robb will be the sideline reporter.
Promotions
On Wednesday, there will be a pom pom giveaway at the match against Illinois.
RED OUT Saturday
On Saturday, the Hoosiers will be home as they host Maryland at 7:00 p.m. The match will be a Red Out and the first 250 fans will get red IU volleyball shirts.
