BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's soccer program will have a Spanish-language radio broadcast for four matches this season, IU Athletics announced. The broadcasts can be accessed on IUHoosiers.com.
The Spanish-speaking broadcasts will be on IUHoosiers.com and free of charge for the matches against No. 1 Notre Dame on Sept. 26, No. 15 Kentucky on Oct. 11, at No. 22 Butler on Oct. 18 and against Wisconsin on Oct. 21.
"Soccer is a global game and Indiana University has a proud history of greatness on the soccer pitch and commitment to internationalism," Senior Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications and Fan Experience Jeremy Gray said. "After the success of broadcasting our home basketball games in Mandarin, Fred Glass and President McRobbie had the idea of broadcasting soccer in Spanish. The Cuban Center and IU Men's Soccer are proud to bring the excitement of IU Men's Soccer to our Spanish speaking students and alumni."
Doing the play-by-play for the Spanish-language broadcasts will be Juan Alvarado, who also covers the men's soccer program for IUSTV.
"I am really excited to start, not only because I get to cover IU Men's Soccer in Spanish, but also because I get to link IU's Hispanic community with its popular soccer team," Alvarado remarked.
The No. 1 Hoosiers will host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Friday, Sept. 22 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
