BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana volleyball alum Jazzmine McDonald has signed a contract to play professionally in Switzerland.
McDonald will depart today and the season goes from September until May with a holiday break in which she will return home.
"I'm so excited for Jazzy signing her contract to play in Switzerland," IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan said. "She has worked hard and volleyball has now paid off in so many ways. First and foremost, she has her education. She has competed at the highest level in college, the Big Ten Conference and now continuing her dream and playing professionally. This will be another growing experience for her that will not only be about volleyball but about life.
"Learning a new culture and exploring the world will open her eyes to so many possibilities and I'm not sure she could have chosen a better location than Switzerland," Dunbar-Kruzan added. "Hoosier Nation should be very proud of Jazzy."
In her senior year at Indiana, McDonald was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention following a season where she hit .364 with 217 kills and 93 blocks. The .364 hitting percentage was the second best for a single season in program history. McDonald finished her career with 513 kills, 241 blocks and the second highest career hitting percentage in program history at .294.
Following her junior season McDonald was selected to play on the USA Volleyball Collegiate National Team. The team toured Europe and won the Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia.
Most recently, McDonald competed for the USA Team in the World University Games in Taiwan.
"I am extremely excited to be able to represent my family, friends, university and country while playing overseas in Switzerland," McDonald said. "When I first started volleyball my freshman year, you could have never told me I would be where I am today. I have God, my family, coaches and friends to thank for bringing me this far. I'm stoked to see where this year takes me and most importantly, Go Hoosiers!"
