BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass announced today that in recognition of the events that took place in Charlottesville this summer, the Indiana football program will join the Virginia athletics department in its "#HoosTogether" campaign this Saturday as the Hoosiers take on the Cavaliers at Scott Stadium.
All Cavalier athletic programs this season are incorporating a HoosTogether patch on their uniforms or equipment for the 2017-2018 academic year. IU's football team will wear a HoosTogether sticker on its helmets to show support for the Charlottesville community and the University of Virginia. Consistent with the UVA #HoosTogether campaign, IU's helmet sticker is being worn in support of love, diversity and inclusion.
"Indiana University and our football program are proud to stand up in support of the City of Charlottesville and our friends at the University of Virginia," said Glass. "Our players, our coaches, and our university respect and support the University of Virginia's efforts to bring people together after the despicable events in Charlottesville this summer."
IU Athletics invites everyone to join HoosTogether on social media to show support. Virginia's HoosTogether campaign also hopes that participation in this effort will lead to greater and deeper conversations among student-athletes, coaches, support staff, administrators and fans to openly discuss the issues that surfaced this summer.
Indiana's contest at UVA this Saturday will air nationally on ESPNU. Kickoff is still slated for 3:30 p.m. ET.
